The best place to start genealogical research that relates to Switzerland and people of Swiss descent, is: Introductory Guide to Swiss Genealogical Research by Lewis Bunker Rohrbach, CG, published by Picton Press in October 2004. The annotated bibliography, pp. 11– 120, gives a quick entry to a wealth of titles and also CD-ROMS, available from Picton Press.
Urspeter Schelbert, compiler and ed., Index of Volumes 1–33 of the Swiss American Historical Society Review, Nr. 3 of Vol. XXXIII, 114 pp. is a swift guide to names of Swiss Americans and articles that may contain rare genealogical data.
His Indexes to: Swiss Colonists in 19th Century America, a reedition of the book published in German in 1889 by Adelrich Steinach (Picton Press, 1995), cover pp. 393–525. There is a "Combined Place Name Index," a "Swiss Place Name Index," an "American Place Name Index," an "Index of Personal Names" (pp. 421–525) that identifies the US location, occupation, and Swiss place or canton of origin
An article-length "Swiss Genealogy. Maralyn A. Wellauer tells us how to start tracing our Swiss ancestry," Family Chronicle (January/February 1999), pp.9–21, is a very useful starting point. ("She can be reached at <swissmis@interserv.com>", p. 9).
In case you would want a quick overview of Swiss abroad, Leo Schelbert published the entry "Swiss Diaspora" in: Encyclopedia of Diasporas. Immigrant and Refugee Cultures Around the World (2004), pp. 296–307. An extended version may be requested as a word file from the author.
